Suunto releases Ambit2, Ambit 2S

Suunto released new-generation sports watches–Ambit2 and Ambit 2S–that can do almost anything, except maybe run the race for you. The Ambit2S is designed with the triathlete in mind. It has features needed for running, cycling, and swimming. The watch has GPS, route navigation, tracking, and a heart rate monitor. Ordinary GPS watches deliver fluctuating speed readings and are slow to register abrupt changes in speed. This makes other watches unreliable during interval training or running on rough terrain. Runners can get rid of that irk with an accelerometer and integrated GPS system called the FusedSpeed technology. Ambit 2S also has the whole gamut for swimmers: pace and distance, automatic intervals, stroke rate, and swimming time. No sharing, please! This watch recognizes your swimming style for easier performance analysis. For cyclists, the watch offers support power meters (ANT+) and various power measurement values for analysis. Athletes can quickly change modes so you can record your Ironman win with just a few tweaks. If that’s still not enough for you, the Ambit 2 has all the features of the Ambit 2S and then some. It has FusedAlti (GPS corrected barometer altitude), 3D compass, and other specs that will make a trekker giggle with glee. The watch is packed in a glass fiber casing and battery life can last up to 50 hours in GPS mode. Oh, yeah. And it tells the time, too. Ambit 2S (P25,000) and the Ambit 2 (Silver and Black – P35,000; Sapphire- P40,000) are available at all Time Depot Stores. Words Elaine Cotoner
