Unlike other phone brands, Chinese hardware maker Xiaomi’s followup to the impressive Mi MIX 2 hasn’t gone the way of the iPhone X. (Someone’s notch a fan, wethinks.) The Mi MIX 2S features a nearly bezel-less front, improved AI capabilities, a new camera system, and faster processor.
This phone is a sight to behold with its almost edge-to-edge display, beautifully curved ceramic back, and aluminum frame. The white version comes with silver highlights, while the black iteration features gold trim.
The 5.99-inch display has an 18:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ (1080 x 2160) resolution. It uses an LCD panel instead of the more popular AMOLED.
The vertically stacked dual pixel A.I. dual camera on the rear panel consists of two 12-megapixel shooters—one for wide and another for telephoto shooting. The main wide-angle camera is set behind an f/1.8 lens (1.4μm pixels), while the telephoto shooter uses an f/2.4 lens (1.0μm pixels). DxOMark has given the 2S a 101 photo rating.
A.I. technology promises to deliver better scene detection, portrait mode with spot-on background blurring, as well as beautifying functions.
Meanwhile, the 5-megapixel front-facing camera is tucked in the lower right corner of the phone’s chin. It features an f/2.0 lens (1.12μm pixels).
Powering the Mi MIX 2S is Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 845 paired with 6GB RAM. The processor features the new Adreno 630 graphics and on-device AI processing. Xiaomi says the 2S will be available locally with 64 and 128GB of storage.
The battery is the same 3,400mAh cell used in its predecessor. This time, however, it supports 7.5W fast wireless charging. The Mi MIX 2S is priced at P27,990 (6GB+64GB) and P29,990 (6GB+128GB).
It will be available starting June 2018 at Mi Stores and the official Mi Store at lazada.com.ph.
