It’s official! DC Shoes Philippines now holds the world record title for the largest skateboarding parade.
Approved by Guinness World Record, DC’s Go Skateboarding Day last June 21 made history with its official count of 1,108 and unofficial count of 2,800 participants. DC broke the 498-record set by the LA-based Venice High School Alumni Association Centennial Celebration Committee in 2011.
Along with thousands of skateboarders, a giant skateboard float dominated the streets of Quirino Grandstand in Manila all the way to Circuit Makati during the parade.
A skateboarding competition hosted by DC followed the parade. It was held at the Mountain Dew Skate Park.
The categories for the Core Competition included the first-ever DC invitational, Highest Ollie, Longest Gap, Best Grind, and Skate Submit, a contest which recognized the skater with the best trick video. Other highlights of the event were the skate demo and free skate session with DC Pro.
International professional skateboarders flew in especially for the historical gathering. DC Pro skaters Cyril Jackson, Chase Webb, and Alex Lawton joined in on the action.
Over P50,000 worth of cash were given to the winners of the DC Invitational category and P100,000 worth of DC products and gift certificates for other winners. Bea Benedicto and veteran skate personality Norwin Caluya hosted the event.
The event was sponsored by Wingstop Philippines, GoPro, Mountain Dew, and the Manila City Government.
