An average smartphone user more or less takes hundreds of pictures a month. Some of us can even cover that number in just a week or a day (Just think about that multiple takes just to get the perfect selfie). These photographs are filed in our digital archives, making it easy to access and cherish the passing moments—nay, the best moments—of our lives.
For 23-year-old freelance photographer Kevin Miguel A. Saño, an image of a seemingly usual moment in his daily life captured only using his everyday smartphone is also a photograph now worth one million pesos.
Entitled “Life of a Fisherman,” this life-changing picture features a silhouette image of Saño’s grandfather while fishing. With the sun barely touching the horizon and the fishing basket framing the shot, the photo provides a romantic perspective and a true homage to the hardworking individuals who get their living through catching fish.
The picture above is also the grand winner of Samsung Electronics Philippines’ Moments Worth A Million photography competition, an eight-week-long online photo contest aimed to encourage Filipinos to capture some of their best moments using the Samsung Galaxy J7+. Saño received P1,000,000 for this winning entry.
“We wanted to give the contestants artistic freedom in capturing their best moments throughout the competition, and they definitely did not disappoint. We believe moments like these are also best captured with the Samsung Galaxy J7+, with its camera features that allows each user to make the most out of each photo,” shared Nico Gonzales, Marketing Manager for Core Smartphones, Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation.
Because he hails from the city of Malabon, which is known for its commercial fishing and fish trading, Saño thought it’s only fitting to take this shot for his “ultimate moment.” He used the Live Focus camera feature of his Samsung Galaxy J7+, along with proper framing and composition, to capture this million peso-worth shot.
Saño qualified for the final round of the Moments Worth a Million photography competition after he won the Week 5 challenge of the online contest, with the theme “Best Meal Ever.” His winning entry for the fifth week is a photo of his girlfriend’s father cooking what could be the tastiest grilled chicken ever.
The winning photo was judged based on which feature of the Samsung Galaxy J7+ is used, originality and creativity, and number of likes.
The Samsung Galaxy J7+ is available in the Philippines. To know more, you can drop by the Samsung Galaxy Studio located at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. You can also visit Samsung’s Facebook page (facebook.com/SamsungPH) or website (samsung.com/ph).
