Speed just got back from the Samsung Local Unpacked event held at the Grand Hyatt Manila, where select media got to witness the Galaxy S9 and S9+ unpacking program live from Barcelona. Here are the top things you need to know about Samsung’s new flagship smartphones:

Camera reimagined

Jonathan Wong, Samsung’s Director of Product Marketing, talks about all the cool new camera features of the S9. With a new Super Speed Dual Pixel sensor its camera boasts Super Slow-mo that captures 960 frames per second, enhanced aperture for better Low Light Camera, AR Emoji that lets you create your own emoji version of yourself, and of course Bixby, which gets more advanced with its new Live Translation that translates foreign text in a picture within a click.  

Visual intelligence

As for Samsung Senior Manager Channel Marketing Erin Willis, it’s all about expressing yourself in ways like never before. Talking about Augmented Reality, S9’s AR Emoji allows you to easily create emojis that actually look like yourself and share it even through different apps without worrying if they’re using the same phone.

With the enhanced Bixby, not only will searching for the right object can be easy but also with food. Now you can take photos of the good eats you like via the S9 and it will immediately identify it. It also connects to Samsung Health to let you know every detail in it like the calories for example. To make things more interesting, there’s also the Make-Up mode that smartly applies the right makeup for your perfect selfie.

Immersive display and audio

Mark Notton, Samsung’s European Head of Product Management, describes it as pulling you inside the display. The S9’s crisp and vibrant screen produces unparalleled viewing experience paired with speakers on both ends of the device powered by Dolby Atmos.

Notton also talked about the S9’s more advanced chipset for faster performance, breeze multi-tasking, and fast wireless charging.

Defense-grade security

Executive Vice President and Head of Research and Software Development Eui Suk Chung shared the new security features of Galaxy S9 with Samsung Knox 3.1 that will definitely give you a piece of mind. Supporting three different biometric authentication options—iris, fingerprint, and facial recognition—so users can choose the best way to protect their device and applications.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available starting March 16, 2018 and will be offered in Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and a new hue, Lilac Purple.
