Rhian Ramos
Catching up with Rhian Ramos
Interview by Kimberly U. Go and Nicole Batac
She walked into the studio dressed in a simple white tank top and loose jersey pants, but Rhian Ramos still looked
effortlessly stunning. She made a beeline for the director's chair in the dressing room and chatted with everyone in the
crew while waiting to be prepped for our photo shoot.

One could say that showbiz has been good to Rhian. After GMA-7 saw her in a McDonald's McJelly Trio ad, they called
her up and asked her to audition for Captain Barbell, where she bagged the role of Leah, Richard Gutierrez's leading lady.
Everything else followed: in four years, this 19-year-old bagged important, if not lead roles of popular TV shows including
Lupin, My Only Love, Asero, LaLola, Zorro, and the popular Korean drama remake, Stairway To Heaven. She has also managed to
fit into her busy schedule several film projects, endorsements, and hosting stints.
Rhian describes her experience as an interesting growth spurt. "When you enter showbiz kind of early, I think you tend
to grow up in hyper speed-but it has its perks because you understand the different kinds of people faster," she says. Despite
that, however, Rhian has managed to stay young at heart. In this interview, we found out just how quirky and fun this
young lady can be.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE TURNING POINT OF YOUR CAREER?
I think I'm in it right now. My last
show [Stairway To Heaven], the one that just ended, was probably the show that rocked everything I used to believe in.
And now I believe in whole different things. I used to be more closed, more secretive with people that I work with. I
give them a working relationship and that's it. [This time] I learned to give more of myself to people, something that's
beyond work, to make a connection.
HOW WAS THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE LIKE DOING THIS SERIES?
Really good. It was the most emotionally
tiring show that I've ever done because I've never had to play a character that was fatalistic. She knew she was going to
die but didn't do anything about it. There would be times when I would come home from taping really, really, really sad
because I really thought that I was going to die. It was also the show that I connected the most with everyone I worked
with because it really required you to give so much of yourself. I made so many friends, real friends.
A TOUGH BUT REWARDING EXPERIENCE, INDEED! SO TELL US, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT WORKING? HOW DO YOU UNWIND?
I like to sleep.
I just really like to sleep. I live with my family but I don't get to see them a lot so I'm really excited to just talk to
my sister and to my mom. Probably reconnect with some old friends. That's pretty much what I do to relax. I turn to the
people I love.
HOW ABOUT SPORTS? ANY FUN SPORT YOU'VE TRIED?
I've gone bungee jumping! I want to go
do that a lot. I did it in China and when they were counting down to when I had to jump, I didn't understand. So
when they were shouting "Jump! Jump!" I was like "What?!" and then they just pushed me! (Laughs) So I was like,
"Oh my God!" and then it was okay na. It was really fun. It puts absolutely no strain on your body. I thought my
back would crack or something, but sobrang wala
REALLY? WE SHOULD TRY THAT SOMETIME. NOW ON TO THE TOPIC OF TECH. HOW HIGH WOULD YOU RANK YOURSELF IN
TERMS OF TECHIENESS?
Nasa gitna lang pero luckily I have friends na sobrang techie. I have the
basics-my iPod, two cell phones, a new iPhone, and a MacBook. And then I get my friends to help me out. like when
converting files. But I'm on the internet pretty often. If I'm not at home, when I go out, I'll go online using my phone.
SO WHAT PART OF THE WEB DO YOU END UP SURFING AT?
Facebook, Twitter. Haha! That's everyone's
vice right now. I visit iGMA.tv to find out what's happening in the station. I'm on YouTube a lot because I want to
find out what my dad is able to watch abroad and the only way is through YouTube. Yeah, sobrang self-centered! But
that's just so that I know what I'm going to say when he calls me about my latest chismis. He's so like that.
ANY OTHER SITES?
Nasa gitna lang pero luckily I have friends na sobrang techie. I have the
basics-my iPod, two cell phones, a new iPhone, and a MacBook. And then I get my friends to help me out. like when
converting files. But I'm on the internet pretty often. If I'm not at home, when I go out, I'll go online using my phone.
WHAT ARE YOUR MUST_HAVE GADGETS?
My phones-a Nokia N96 and N82.
WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOUR ALL-IN-ONE GADGET?
Para sa akin, okay na 'yung phone e. I think
it's the number one thing because sobrang social na natin ngayon. We really need the phone, not just for personal stuff
but for work. You can now have internet access with your phones. I can sit in a group of people, like we're friends and
we all go to somewhere na may Wi-Fi, but we're not talking! We're looking down and fiddling with our phones and then we
tweet each other! (Laughs)
HAHA! FUNNY BUT YEAH, WE'VE SEEN THAT TOO MANY TIMES! WHAT'S YOUR TWITTER NAME?
Whianwamos.
CUTE NAME. IS IT PRIVATE?
No. Anyone who wants to see it can.
OKAY, SO LET'S SAY YOU WERE A GADGET. WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
I would probably be a MacBook.
Because it lasts long and you can do so many things with it. Wow you can do so many things with me! (Laughs). I find it
to be a fun-ner kind of computer.
DO YOU PLAY VIDEO GAMES?
At Timezone. I love shooting games, like Time Crisis and Jurassic Park.
Jurassic Park 'pag tinatamad akong tumayo kasi nakaupo ka lang and then the dinosaurs come at you.
WHERE DO YOU DO MOST OF YOUR VIDEO WATCHING? ON YOUR COMPUTER, AT THE CINEMA, OR AT HOME ON YOUR TV?
At home on my TV.
WHAT'S YOUR HOME ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM LIKE?
I just had my room renovated, so I'm about to put a
flat screen on my ceiling.
THE CEILING?
Gusto ko mag-vegetate. I just want to lie down, put two pillows under my head,
hug something, then watch forever. I even designed my bed. That's something I want to do. I want to design furniture
and stuff. So I designed my bed to have a pull-down table, so now you can watch TV and then eat and then you can have
your laptop over here and my remote control for the aircon is right next to me. So in my vacation, I'll probably never
go out again.
THAT'S DEFINITELY PERFECT FOR VEGETATING! THIS IS UNRELATED TO THE PREVIOUS QUESTION, BUT WHAT WERE YOU
PLANNING TO TAKE UP BEFORE YOU ENTERED SHOWBIZ?
I plan to take up two things, one after the other.
Feeling ko uunahin ko 'yung psychology because I wanted to be a shrink for kids. Then take up design, either fashion
or interior. So that I can design other lazy people furniture (laughs) with wheels and then you can just go to your
friend's house na nakahiga.
HAHA! THAT'S ONE HIGH-TECH BED! SO, WHAT OTHER GADGETS CAN WE FIND IN YOUR PLACE?
I think my laptop
is the number one gadget that I need at home because pina-Wi-Fi namin 'yung bahay so like, everywhere I go, naka-laptop pa rin
ako. And then when I go back upstairs, I tweet before I go to sleep. Addict na yata ako.
WE KNOW THE FEELING. ANY GADGET THAT'S ON YOUR WISH LIST?
I want to upgrade to a MacBook Pro.
Hint, hint. Hi, mom! (Laughs)
WHAT TECHIE THING DO YOU WANT TO LEARN TO DO?
I want to learn to edit videos. I like to be
able to change the colors to match so that it looks like one fluid video when you switch from camera to camera..
COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE FOR US: "I WISH I INVENTED."
Touch-screen because everyone's using
touch-screen and I'd be so rich right now. I find it so cool kasi you can really take down real notes. Like pwede kang
magpa-autograph sa phone mo! And then you make copies of it! (Laughs). Madali akong ma-starstruck so gusto ko ng pwede
magpa-autograph.
OKAY, LET'S WRAP UP THIS INTERVIEW. BUT FIRST, WE WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE MOST PROUD OF.
I'm most
proud of my job because I put so much into it-so much time, emotion, and strength. I'm extremely lucky because I've worked with
so many awesome and legendary people, on and off-cam, and been blessed with such good scripts na ang sarap gawin.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE ACTING A LIFELONG CAREER?
I would like to pero hindi ako umaasa kasi
I know it doesn't last forever. So I'm just enjoying it while it's here right now.
HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF 10 OR 20 YEARS DOWN THE ROAD?
I will have had my foundation by then.
I will have bought my own house. I just want to give my family the lifestyle people dream about because I love my family.
I just want to put people in general in a better place.
