Cover Girl
Interview by Tim M. Sosmeña
Andi Eigenmann
It has been a roller-coaster ride for Andi Eigenmann so far. From being just the daughter of Jaclyn Jose and Mark Gil and being just a member of a family of showbiz royalties, Andi has made a name for herself thanks to her lead role in the just-wrapped-up ABS-CBN teleserye Agua Bendita.
Her career wasn’t served on a silver platter, though. Andi worked her way up by way of Prinsesa ng Banyera, Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition, and the MYX VJ Search 2009. Today, the 20-year-old is one of the most recognizable faces in showbiz appearing on billboards, print ads, TV, and magazine covers.
We caught up with the “funky, eccentric mermaid” (her own words) and got to know a little more about her.
So what’s keeping you busy now that Agua Bendita has ended?
I’m doing a movie, Temptation Island and Shake, Rattle, and Roll. Shake is coming out at the Manila Film Festival in December then Temptation is showing next year, unless they change it. I also keep myself busy with mall shows and events. I also have my Crossings endorsement.
Right now, my main focus is really on my career. I plan to continue my studies, but the thing is, since I have work now, I want to put all my attention to it. I decided to concentrate on this first while the opportunity is there. And since I finished high school already, I know that it would be easy to go back to school. Probably after adjusting to my career, I’ll go back to school when the time permits.
That’s good to hear! So, we won’t dilly-dally and we’ll just go straight to I the point…How techie would you say are you?
I’d say I’m a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. I like buying gadgets, but only those that I need. For example, I love music, but I don’t have an iPod because I don’t really need it. I have a laptop, two cell phones, only the basic ones. Those few gadgets I have, I really know how to use them. I maximize their features. I have a BlackBerry, an iPhone, and a MacBook Pro. Hindi ako maluho ’pag dating sa pagbili ng gadgets. But it’s important, too, na magandang klase.
You are one very practical techie. So when buying your gadgets, you consider form and power?
Yes, minsan kapag may gusto akong gadget tapos gusto ko ’yung power niya, pero hindi siya masyadong maganda, I won’t buy it. It has to have both nice form and power. When buying gadgets, I opt for the bigger ones. Like, I want an iPod but I’d rather just buy an iPad. Having an iPad means I could have my music player, games, and DVD player all in one gadget. I can put my scripts there, and I can put e-books there because I love to read. I want to buy it because I think that I could maximize its use.
Too bad it won’t fit in your pocket…
‘Yun nga lang. But then when I go out, I don’t really bring all my gadgets. I’m the type of person who likes to focus my attention on the people I’m with or to the places that I go to. I just enjoy what I’m doing at the moment. Just having my cell phone when I go out is okay with me.
Which of your two phones?
My BlackBerry, because I have everything there. Also, I can text and call everybody. If my line is cut off, I can always BBM (BlackBerry Messenger)! (Laughs)
