Review by Melvin G. Calimag
In the seven years I've been covering the IT beat, I've witnessed some of the best (and worst) technologies to come out in the consumer arena. While some of them left a favorable impression on me, I've learned not to be overcome by my desire to splurge on things beyond my spending power.
The P22,900 6-megapixel Pentax Optio W10, however, is one of those gadgets
I'd be willing to buy even if it depletes my resources.
The W10's main selling point is anchored on this: it's water- and dust-proof. A few people may scoff at this, but the truth is you can dip the W10 for up to 1.5 meters underwater for 30 minutes and still come out with a good underwater photos. It's specially sealed to prevent damage from the elements, making it virtually immune to our nasty weather, not to mention the dust from the pollution in the metro. Exactly what we need.
At 140 grams and less than an inch thick, I can carry the W10 around like I would a cell phone. It has a 3x optical zoom that features a "folding" optical system so the lens never protrudes from the camera while zooming. It lacks an optical viewfinder, so you'll have to depend on its large, 2.5-inch LCD for composing your shots.
