Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 4 and BeoLab 4
Words The SPEED editorial staff

Bang & Olufsen continues to surprise and delight music lovers with the new BeoSound 4, an ultra-stylish compact audio system that exploits digital music storage and portability while offering the performance expected from a system with the renowned Bang & Olufsen logo.

The BeoSound 4 features a built-in CD player, FM radio, and SD (Secure Digital) card slot, making it possible to record from the radio or CD to the SD card and play back the recording on the BeoSound 4 or on another system. This represents true integration of digital and traditional listening formats in one audio system. In addition to the menu buttons, the turn-and-click navigation wheel offers shortcuts through large amounts of information. Bang & Olufsen's well-known BeoLink system allows BeoSound 4 users to send music played back from the SD card to speakers throughout the house. The flexibility enabled by SD card- connectivity also allows users to listen to music in the garden with the new BeoSound 3 portable audio system or away from home on the BeoSound 2 digital music player.

The BeoSound 4 system can be placed almost anywhere on its ?oor, table or wall stand. The darkened glass door half-opens with the wave of a hand to reveal the buttons and navigation wheels. Press 'Load' and the glass cover rises further to give access to the CD loader. Highly readable display text appears through the glass cover.

"With BeoSound 4, we have succeeded in building an audio system that lives up to the very high standards expected from Bang & Olufsen, from the idea behind the concept and design to the choice of materials and craftsmanship-and not least the ease of use and performance," says Michael Jensen, Product Manager, Bang & Olufsen. "BeoSound 4 has that touch of magic that shows its pedigree, and at the same time offers the integration with digital music formats that is increasingly important for how we listen to music," he adds.

Of course, an audio system with the BeoSound 4's potential deserves an equally accomplished speaker system. Which is why we pair it with Bang & Olufsen's own BeoLab 4, a new loudspeaker that you can hang, place, rest, or mount on just about any surface or angle imaginable! The BeoLab 4 is ideal with a compact BeoSound audio system, as rear speakers for home cinema, or as superbly performing PC loudspeakers. Despite its modest size, the pyramid-shaped BeoLab 4 is a true hi-? loudspeaker, with the amplifier built into the loudspeaker unit and a range of Bang & Olufsen proprietary acoustic technologies ensuring the best performance.

The ICEpower amplifier unit used in the BeoLab 4 is a patented Bang & Olufsen solution, allowing for an ultra-compact design, high power output, and cool operation. Adaptive Bass Linearisation, another proprietary Bang & Olufsen technology, offers superior bass performance from small loudspeaker cabinets. Circuit protection technology, meanwhile, ensures that the BeoLab 4 never overheats.

Cutting-edge looks, audiophile-quality sound, state-of-the-art technology-what more can you ask for from the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 4 and BeoLab 4?
