Words Angela Robinson
The six-member group is composed of Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, and Kimberly Wyatt. Carmit is the only current member of the PCD who was part of the original Pussycat Dolls. She has made a name for herself through the years as a respected dancer, working on projects with artists such as Beyonce, Janet Jackson, and Ricky Martin.
As a kid, Jessica dreamt of becoming a ballerina. Unfortunately, on the way to fulfilling this dream, she tore the ACL on both her knees. Refusing to give up, Jessica went on to become the captain of the Miami Heat cheerleaders in 2001. In 2002, she moved to LA where she met Antin. Melody, Kimberly, and Ashley all became Dolls in 2003. Each of them made the move to Los Angeles in the hope of becoming famous either through singing, dancing, or acting.
Lead Pussycat Nicole started her career when she joined the talent search show Popstars in 2001. This landed her a spot in the all-girl pop group Eden's Crush. This resulted in a top ten album, a #1 single, and a US tour. When the group disbanded in 2002, Nicole auditioned for the revamped PCD, where she was cast as the leader of the troupe, a role once held by Baywatch babe Carmen Elektra. This Theater Arts graduate (who incidentally played Velma Kelly in Chicago back in college) is the only Doll who has co-written a song on their multi-platinum album.
Nicole, who is part-Filipino, was born in Hawaii. Her mother is Russian/Hawaiian while her father is Filipino/Italian. The Dolls will be steaming up the Araneta Coliseum this July 28 and it will be the first time for Nicole to visit her father's homeland.
