Hey there, Pussycat!
Words Angela Robinson

The Pussycat Dolls, otherwise known as the PCD, has released one eponymous album which has been the home to four chart-topping tracks. So far. The first one is a collaboration with Busta Rhymes, "Don't Cha," which has won two Billboard music awards. The second is the R&B ballad "Stickwitu," which reached number one in the UK. They followed this up with "Beep," a song that features one of their album's producers Will.i.Am from the Black Eyed Peas. Their latest hit single which is slowly rising up the charts worldwide is "Buttons" where the Dolls worked with Snoop Dogg to infuse some Middle-Eastern charm into this pop anthem.

With all this success coming their way, it's a bit hard to believe that the Pussycat Dolls had their humble beginnings over 10 years ago. Back in 1995, choreographer Robin Antin, who has worked with musicianssuch as Sting, Pink, and No Doubt, auditioned a group of girls for a dance act that would take its inspiration from such musicals as Cabaret and Chicago. When the group was completed, they secured a home in an LA club where they performed every Thursday. As word spread about this group, big-named stars such as Christina Aguilera, Brittany Murphy, Christina Applegate, Gwen Stefani, and Drew Barrymore wanted to make guest appearances with the Dolls.

Over the years, however, Antin's vision of her group changed and she wanted the Pussycat Dolls to go worldwide. In 2003 she began looking for a new group of girls - but instead of just dancers, she now was looking for girls who could carry a tune as well.
