Magic Sing Premium
Review by Ann Caroline Misa

Ours is a country of music lovers. Our idea of fun in videoke places is taking turns with (or grappling for) the microphone, belting out our favorite songs, and competing with one another for the highest score. Which is why I was thrilled when I was asked to test Magic Sing's Premium Black videoke-in-a-microphone system.

The test unit was the new black model which retails for P11,000. A silver model retails for P12,500. The only difference between the two is that the black one can accommodate up to three song chips while the silver can hold up to four. Chips cost P3,500 to P4,000 a pop.

If you're an occasional bean counter like myself, the first thing that comes to mind would be that this definitely falls under an expensive purchase. The sort that requires thinking over several times. But wait. Each model comes with 793 pre-loaded English songs to choose from. Divide the price of the Magic Sing with the number of pre-loaded songs and it comes out to P13.87 per song. Not bad, as it comes with the convenience of being able to belt out your fave hits in the comfort of your own home, or any place you want to use it - and you get to do so with absolutely no time or cost limitations.

What makes this Magic Sing (which is exclusively distributed by In-A-Jiffy Enterprises) different from the rest is that it comes with 49 scenic "WOW PHILIPPINES" backgrounds instead of the usual melodramatic videos of lovers. It's a great gift for OFWs that are thousands of miles away from home.

Setting up the system is a breeze. Just attach the supplied five-meter cord to the microphone and TV video and audio input slots and you're ready to crank up your vocal cords. Some of the bugs are the usual misspellings in some lyrics. I guess that's something that is common to videoke materials. The microphone itself could also be a little lighter. Still, this is one entertainment toy that'll definitely let you sing to your heart's content.
