The first virus to run on devices using Microsoft Pocket PC was discovered mid-July, security firm F-Secure said.
But like the Cabir mobile phone virus, this one, called Duts, was written by a member of the 29A virus
writing group and is a "proof of concept" piece of software.
That is to say that the virus will never be a problem in the real world, but was
developed to show it can be done.
Duts spreads from PDA to PDA when programs are exchanged by being beamed.
When an infected file is executed, it replicates other .EXE files in the same
directory.
According to F-Secure, the virus can also infect mobile phones running the ARM-based version of Pocket PC.
