The lowdown
Kazaa vs. iMesh
Words Gary Mercado

If there's any type of application that truly showcases what the Internet is all hyped up to be, it's the file-sharing software, also known as the peer to peer (P2P) application. And the two most popular of these are Kazaa and iMesh, both garnering first and second place on CNet's popular Download.com in the "MP3 Search Tools" category. As if to highlight their popularity, these are also first and third of the five most popular overall in the "Most Popular Download" overall at the time of this writing, with the rest comprised of the more traditional downloads such as Instant Messengers and File Compressors.

Frankly, once you've tried it, it's not hard to state that in order to truly "experience the Internet" at its fullest, it's not merely important to just have good email software, a capable browser or even the latest in PC gear. It is now also of primary importance to have a good familiarity with at least one P2P application. In fact, if I may be able to use my own experiences as a gauge, once you get to become familiar with P2P, Instant messaging, browsing and to some extent even online gaming, can suddenly feel pretty much old hat.
